An unforgettable kids' club, exceptional dining, effortless island living and a surprise overwater villa with a slide. Here's why we'd return to this Maldives resort in a heartbeat.

Can the Maldives Really Be a Relaxing Holiday With Kids?
Let's be honest, when you think about taking the family to the Maldives, you probably imagine crystal-clear water, beautiful overwater villas, incredible food and a cocktail by the pool.
But if you're a parent, there's probably another little voice in your head asking some very practical questions.
How difficult is it to get there with the kids?
Will they actually eat the food?
Will there be enough to keep them entertained?
Will I really get to relax, or will I spend the entire holiday organising everyone else's day?
As parents ourselves, we completely understand.
We've experienced some extraordinary holidays with our children, Aria and Tommy, but we've also learned that a beautiful resort doesn't automatically mean a relaxing family holiday.
Sometimes the most luxurious places can be the least practical when you're travelling with little ones.
So when we decided to take the kids to the Maldives for the first time in September 2026, we wanted to get the resort choice right.
Mel and I had already visited the Maldives twice before, staying at COMO Maalifushi in 2018 and Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in 2023.
We knew how extraordinary the Maldives could be as a couple.
But this time, we wanted something different.
We wanted a resort where our children would be genuinely happy, where meals wouldn't be a daily negotiation, where activities were easy to organise and where we could still enjoy the luxury we'd come to love about the Maldives.
We chose OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI.
And after four nights, we realised something.
A family holiday can feel like a proper holiday for Mum and Dad, too.
Here's why this resort made that possible.
Getting There: No Extra Flight, No Complicated Transfers
One of the first things we consider when planning a family holiday is how much travelling we'll have to do once we've arrived at our destination.
Because after a long international flight, the last thing most parents want is another airport, another check-in or hours of waiting around with tired children.
This was one of the biggest reasons we loved OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI.
After landing in Malé, we transferred to a beautiful luxury yacht for the approximately 40-minute journey to the resort.
No additional domestic flight. No seaplane connection.
Just a comfortable boat journey across the incredible Maldivian water.
It was our first yacht transfer in the Maldives, and we absolutely loved it.
For Aria and Tommy, the boat journey was an adventure in itself.
For Mel and me, it was the moment we could finally start to unwind.
As we approached the island, we could see the beautiful villas stretching over the turquoise ocean.
And just as we arrived at the jetty, we spotted an enormous stingray swimming beneath us.
What an incredible way to begin a holiday.
But beyond the excitement, what we really appreciated was how straightforward the journey felt.
For families travelling with younger children, fewer connections and a shorter transfer can make an enormous difference.
It's one less thing to organise and one less thing to worry about.
And after arriving in paradise, that's exactly how you want to feel.
Getting Around the Resort: Buggies, Bikes and No Stress
Here's something you don't always think about when choosing a luxury island resort.
How are you actually going to get around once you're there?
When you're travelling with children, walking long distances in tropical heat can quickly put everyone in a bad mood.
Thankfully, getting around OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI was incredibly easy.
The resort has buggies available to transport guests around the island, which was wonderful when we didn't feel like walking or needed to get somewhere with the children.
It was such a simple convenience, but one we really appreciated.
And then there were the bicycles.
The resort had bikes available for the family, including children's bicycles with training wheels. Fit with custom name plates too.
How good is that?
Aria and Tommy loved the freedom of riding around the island, and it turned something as ordinary as getting from one place to another into another fun activity.
Rather than constantly worrying about how far we needed to walk, we could simply enjoy exploring.
Of course, with children, we'd always recommend supervising bike rides and taking care around jetty pathways and buggy traffic.
But having these options made island life so much easier.
It's the little practical details like this that can make a luxury resort genuinely family friendly.
Not just beautiful to look at, but easy to enjoy.
Our Overwater Villa: Space, Privacy and Everything Within Reach
There's something magical about waking up in an overwater villa in the Maldives.
Opening the curtains and seeing that extraordinary turquoise water never gets old.
The kids had their own cosy sleeping area in the lounge, just a few metres from our bedroom.
One of the most magical touches was the glass floor panel, where we could look straight down into the crystal-clear Maldivian waters beneath our villa.
Our original overwater villa was beautiful, with a private pool, incredible ocean views and plenty of space to relax.
I loved being able to wake up and jump straight into the pool.
And having our own private space was fantastic when travelling with the kids.
Another small detail we appreciated was the included minibar, stocked with drinks and treats.
If you've travelled with children, you'll know how often someone suddenly decides they're hungry or thirsty.
Having refreshments readily available made those moments so much easier.
Of course, overwater accommodation does require extra care with younger children. We always supervised Aria and Tommy around the pool, deck and water access.
For families with very young children or children who aren't confident swimmers, we'd carefully consider the most suitable villa category for everyone’s safety.
That's one of the reasons choosing the right accommodation matters just as much as choosing the right resort.
Dining Without the Drama: A Dream for Parents of Fussy Eaters
Let's talk about something that can make or break a family holiday. Food.
Now, Mel and I absolutely love great restaurants, in fact, discovering incredible food is one of our favourite parts of travelling.
But Aria and Tommy, they're a little fussier.
And if you've ever tried convincing a tired child to eat something unfamiliar while sitting in a beautiful restaurant, you'll know exactly what we're talking about.
So one of our biggest concerns when choosing a Maldives resort was whether the dining would work for everyone.
Thankfully, OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI was fantastic.
The Restaurants Were Organised for Us
One of the things we loved most was how seamlessly our dining was arranged.
Our restaurant experiences were planned ahead, so we weren't spending our days trying to make reservations or wondering where we'd eat that evening.
We could simply turn up and enjoy ourselves.
That might sound like a small thing, but when you're travelling with children, removing one more daily decision is a huge bonus.
There was no rushing around trying to secure a table or spending valuable holiday time organising dinner.
The planning had already been taken care of and that's exactly the kind of luxury we appreciate.
They Actually Catered for Our Fussy Eaters
What impressed us most was how accommodating the staff were.
At every restaurant, they were happy to help with the children's preferences.
Chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, hot chips, pizza, fresh fruit and of course ice cream.
All the familiar favourites that make travelling with fussy eaters so much easier.
Rather than feeling awkward about asking for something simple, we felt completely comfortable.
The staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely wanted the children to enjoy their meals.
Breakfast was another highlight.
I'm fairly certain Aria and Tommy ordered pancakes and waffles every single morning and honestly, why wouldn't they? They were on holiday!
For us, it meant everyone started the day happy and when the kids are happy, the whole day tends to run a little more smoothly.
The Kids Could Even Eat at the Kids' Club
This was another fantastic benefit.
When Aria and Tommy were enjoying the kids' club, the staff could organise meals for them there.
That meant we didn't have to interrupt their activities, collect them, get everyone ready and head off to a restaurant just because it was lunchtime.
They could continue having fun with their friends, enjoying food they actually wanted to eat and Mel and I could enjoy our own lunch.
That is the sort of detail parents really appreciate.
Because a relaxing holiday isn't about having absolutely nothing to organise.
It's about staying somewhere that makes the everyday things effortless.
The Restaurants: Exceptional Food for Mum and Dad
Now, just because the children were happily eating their favourites doesn't mean Mel and I were missing out.
Quite the opposite.
The food at OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI was exceptional and I don't say that lightly.
We've been fortunate to enjoy some incredible restaurants during our travels, and the dining here genuinely impressed us.
Soyi: My Personal Favourite
For me, Jay, the standout was Soyi, the resort's Asian-inspired restaurant.
There were so many incredible dishes, and I loved the variety of flavours.
At lunch we often went to Sangu Beach Restaurant and got to try the handmade sushi which was incredible.
We kept going back for it at lunchtime whenever we could.
Fresh, beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious.
I could have happily eaten it every day.
Indian Dining: Mel's Favourite
Mel's favourite was the Indian restaurant.
And I have to agree, the Indian food was some of the best I've ever tasted.
The flavours were incredible, and the quality was outstanding.
It became one of the dining experiences we looked forward to most.
We loved that the resort could deliver such wonderful food for adults while still making mealtimes easy for the children.
There was no compromise.
We could enjoy the dining experience we wanted, and the kids could enjoy theirs.
That's a winning combination.
The Kids' Club: The Reason We Actually Got to Relax
If there's one reason we'd recommend OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI to families, it's the kids' club and I'm not exaggerating.
It was genuinely one of the biggest highlights of our entire holiday.
The staff were fantastic, the activities were varied and the children absolutely loved being there.
But here's the story that really sums it up.
On one particular day, Mel and I went back to the kids' club five times to see if Aria and Tommy wanted to come out.
They were having so much fun with the staff and their new friends that they had absolutely no interest in leaving.
Now, as parents, that's a pretty wonderful problem to have.
We weren't trying to convince the children to go to the kids' club so we could have a break.
They were asking to go because they genuinely loved it and that makes an enormous difference.
Activities That Kept Them Entertained, Even When It Rained
One day during our stay, the weather was terrible.
Normally, that might be disappointing on a tropical island holiday.
But the kids couldn't have cared less.
They were happily decorating cupcakes, playing games and enjoying all the activities available at the kids' club.
There was so much to keep them entertained that the weather didn't matter and for parents, knowing there's a fantastic indoor option when the tropical rain arrives is incredibly reassuring.
You don't have to spend the day wondering how to entertain two bored children in your villa.
They've got somewhere wonderful to go.
Staff Who Made the Children Feel Special
What really stood out was the team.
They were warm, friendly and genuinely engaging with the children.
Aria and Tommy felt comfortable and excited to spend time there and that's incredibly important.
Because no matter how impressive a kids' club looks in the resort photographs, what really matters is whether your children feel happy and welcomed.
Ours absolutely did.
They even made friends with other children their age and those friendships have lasted beyond the holiday.
They're now pen pals with some of the children they met at the resort.
For us, that's a memory just as meaningful as the beautiful villas and turquoise water.
Why This Matters So Much for Parents
When your children are genuinely happy and well cared for, you can finally relax.
You're not constantly checking the time.
You're not feeling guilty about taking a break.
You're not wondering whether they're bored or asking to come back.
You can actually enjoy the holiday you've spent so much time looking forward to.
Of course, we'd always check the current kids' club ages, supervision arrangements, operating hours and meal options before booking, because these can vary.
But based on our experience, the kids' club was extraordinary, and it made the entire holiday better for everyone.
A Spa Treatment, a Cocktail and Some Time Together
Let's be honest about another part of family travel.
Sometimes Mum and Dad need a holiday too.
Between work, school, activities and the general chaos of everyday life, finding time to properly relax together isn't always easy and even when you go away as a family, you're often still managing everyone's needs.
But at OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, we actually had the opportunity to slow down.
Because Aria and Tommy were so happy at the kids' club, Mel and I could enjoy some time together.
We went snorkelling.
We enjoyed spa treatments.
We relaxed with cocktails and sometimes, we simply enjoyed doing absolutely nothing.
Mel discovered a cocktail called the Pinot Peach, which quickly became her favourite.
I think it's fair to say she thoroughly enjoyed testing that one!
But what we both loved most was the feeling that everyone was having a wonderful holiday.
The kids weren't missing out while we relaxed and we weren't missing out while the kids had fun.
Everyone was happy.
For us, that's the definition of a successful luxury family holiday.
Family Activities: More Than Just Beautiful Beaches
Another thing we loved about OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI was having activities that we could enjoy together.
Of course, the beaches and lagoon are beautiful.
But we wanted the children to experience more than just swimming in the pool.
One of our favourite activities was a semi-submersible submarine excursion.
Aria and Tommy already love snorkelling, and we'd brought full-face snorkel masks to help them explore the underwater world.
But this excursion allowed us to see so much more.
We could venture farther out and observe the marine life from beneath the surface without having to swim the entire distance.
We saw reef sharks, a turtle and we saw the beautiful underwater world that makes the Maldives so special.
The children were fascinated.
For families with younger children, experiences like this can be a wonderful way to introduce them to marine life without relying entirely on their swimming or snorkelling abilities.
It's something we'd absolutely consider again and it's another reason why choosing the right resort matters.
You want somewhere that offers memorable experiences for the whole family, not just activities designed for adults.
Our Final-Night Surprise: A Two-Bedroom Villa With a Waterslide
Now, this was the highlight we saved until the very end.
For our final night, Mel and I decided to surprise the children.
We paid to upgrade from our original villa to a spectacular two-bedroom overwater villa with its own waterslide and I can honestly say it was worth every cent.
The moment Aria and Tommy realised they had a slide leading straight into the beautiful Maldivian water was unforgettable.
They were beside themselves with excitement and then the fun began.
Just us, the ocean and our own waterslide.
It was one of those moments where you realise that the best travel memories aren't always about the most expensive experiences.
They're about the joy of sharing something special together and for our family, that final night was unforgettable.
The Little Things That Made This Resort So Easy
Looking back, one of the reasons OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI worked so well for our family wasn't just the big experiences.
It was the little things.
The yacht transfer that meant we didn't need another flight.
The buggies that made getting around easy.
The children's bicycles with training wheels.
The friendly staff who were always happy to help.
The restaurant arrangements that were organised ahead of time.
The flexibility with children's meals.
The minibar stocked with treats.
The kids' club that kept the children happy even when it poured with rain and the ability for Mel and me to enjoy a spa treatment or a quiet cocktail without feeling like we were missing out on family time.
Individually, these might sound like small details, but together, they transformed the holiday.
We weren't spending our time managing the logistics of a family holiday. We were actually enjoying one.
That's what we want families to understand when they're choosing a luxury resort.
It's not just about how beautiful the photographs look.
It's about how the resort makes you feel when you're there.
Is Four Nights Enough at OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI?
We stayed for four nights, and it was a wonderful amount of time for our first Maldives holiday with the children.
One important consideration is the resort's dining and experience inclusions.
During our visit, staying four nights helped us access the inclusions we wanted, and we appreciated having our restaurant experiences arranged ahead of time.
The exact inclusions can depend on your package and travel dates, so this is something we'd always check carefully when planning a holiday.
For families, we'd recommend considering a four-to-six-night stay.
It gives you time to settle in, enjoy the resort, let the children discover the kids' club and experience some of the activities without feeling rushed.
If your schedule allows, an extra night or two would be even better.
Because once everyone is happy and relaxed, you really won't want to leave.
Our Final Verdict: Would We Return to OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI?
Without hesitation.
Having experienced the Maldives before, we knew how special it could be. What surprised us this time was just how much we enjoyed sharing it with Aria and Tommy.
For us, OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI struck that rare balance between a luxury escape and a genuinely enjoyable family holiday. The kids had their own adventures, Mel and I had time to ourselves, and we still shared some unforgettable moments together.
Four nights went far too quickly, and I think that says everything about how much we loved it.
Would we recommend it to families? Absolutely. Would we return? In a heartbeat.
